Foreign Language Day

The Spanish and French students from grades 3, 4 and 5 celebrated the first ever edition of Foreign Language Day where they showcased their proficiency in communicating in the languages.  Students put on short plays, sang songs and wrote and illustrated original poems which they presented before and enthralled audience in a wonderful performance.

  Grade 3 The French students of Grade 3 showed their acquisition of the language through activities such as self introductions and recitations of simple poems and songs.  In the following videos the students can be seen introducing themselves in French.              Students performing the song 'If you are happy and you know it', in French.    A recitation of the poem 'Alouette' A simulated between an old and a new student of CIS.

Grade 2  The Bengali students of Grade 2 showed their proficiency in the language through a variety of activities.  The following videos show the students speaking on different items in a show and tell activity.       The students also sang Rabindra Sangeet on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti.   The students also recited poems, stressing on correct pronunciations, intonations and expressions.         The students also did a project on the National Symbols of India. Grade 3 The Spanish students of grade 3 participated in extempore speaking activities where they each said a few lines on a topic that was chosen at random. The focus was on using the correct pronunciations and grammatical structures.

Grade 1 The Hindi students of Grade 1 used their creativity to make a chart where they wrote all swars of the language and illustrated for each letter. They even spoke about their ‘Favourite Photograph’ and recited the poem ‘Savera’ Charts on Vowels     Show and Tell activity on 'My favourite photograph'                    Recitations of the poem 'Savera'       Grade 2 The students of 2A recited a few lines each on the Hindi Matras. They also recited short poems on their favorite fruit- “Mango”- and showed pictures of the same.   The students of grade 2B celebrated the season of Spring with great joy and creativity. They wrote a few lines on their favorite fruits, vegetables and foods that they enjoy in season of Spring. They drew pictures of these and colored them. The students of Spanish showed their creative flair by combining artwork with writing skills and the result was a vibrant mix of color and words and interesting ideas ranging from superheroes and their superpowers to the joy of the winter season.

The French students of Grades 4 and 5 took us on a trip to the different cities of France. Grade 4 made travel brochures of these cities informing us about the various places to visit, the food and the famous monuments found there. Grade 5 explored further and made brochures on the various interesting  festivals celebrated in these cities.

The students of Bengali of Grades 1,4 and, 5 wrote and spoke on Durga Puja and the season of autumn 'sharat kal' talking about all the celebrations and the fun that they have in the vacations and how they enjoy the winter.

Creations of the students in Hindi

The students of Grades 4 and 5 wrote poems and passages about the Durga Puja and Diwali expressing their joy and speaking about all the festivities that go on as a part of the celebration of this occasion while being conscious about protecting the environment at the same time.  As part of collaboration with geography, the students also spoke about the movement of the earth and the changing of the seasons in Hindi while demonstrating the phenomenon with models.
